FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I select a supervisor?
Supervisor selection is done via SMAP Online. It usually takes place at the beginning of the new semester. We will announce the date on this website. Please take note that only those who have registered for FYP via SMAP Online will be able to select.
Can I select the supervisor of my choice?
Yes, granted that he or she is on the selection list. Selection is on "first come first serve" basis. You will have to check to see if he or she has already acquired the maximum number of students. You are advised to have a few choices in mind before you make your selection.
What should I do next once I have a supervisor confirmed for my project?
Meet with your supervisor to discuss about your project. By the end of Week 2, you will need to submit your Project Title and Synopsis, which includes the Objectives, Scope of Study and Expected Results via the Online System. Your Project Title and Synopsis will then be perused by the respective Head of Engineering Panel, whose role is to consider and approve your research. You are advised to start working on your Project Proposal as early as Week 1.
How often do I need to have discussions with my supervisor?
Ideally, you should meet with your supervisor at least once a week. According to regulations, students must attend at least 80% of the total meeting hours per semester, which should be determined by the supervisor. Failure to fulfill this requirement will result in you not meeting conditions for passing FYP.
Can I change my supervisor and/or title?
